The Friends of West Windsor Open Space (FOWWOS) is a nonpartisan group of concerned citizens that advocates preservation of the remaining open space in West Windsor Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. Since FOWWOS is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, all contributions to it are fully tax deductible. FOWWOS was founded in 1996.
- The objectives of FOWWOS are to:
- Promote the preservation of open space in West Windsor;
- Encourage and assist the local government in its open space and conservation programs;
- Raise funds toward the purchase of open space;
- Foster the study of natural resource conservation in West Windsor;
- Encourage farmland preservation; and
- Engage in other charitable and educational activities related to open space conservation that may be appropriate.
FOWWOS has emphasized public education on open space issues, and advocates and facilitates open space land purchases by the Township. In the some open space aquisition projects, FOWWOS was, itself, able to contribute its direct financial support toward the purchase of land for preservation with funds raised through membership dues and other contributions.
FOWWOS plans and cooperates in the development of open space, where appropriate. It has been particularly engaged in the development of open space for purposes of passive recreation. To this end, FOWWOS members, and other volunteers coordinated by FOWWOS, have built and maintained several trails through open space areas in West Windsor.
The purpose of this web site is to provide the interested public with information on FOWWOS, points of contact with FOWWOS, a summery of our recent and current activities, historical summaries of some of our activities and acomplishments since FOWWOS was founded, and other relevant information.
FOWWOS generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month. The meetings are held in the West Windsor Township municipal building, starting at 7:30 pm. All members, as well as others who are interested are invited, to attend. The Annual Meeting, at which trustees are elected by the members, is usually early in the year.
As a volunteer organization, FOWWOS needs help with many of our programs. If you are interested, please contact one of the trustees, or write to or email the address below, or call Elliot Kleiman at 799-8372.
